OxfordAQA International A-level English Literature

Oxford AQA International

Mapped from the board's own specification and signed off on 23 August 2026 by Lee Woods. January and May or June. Graded A* to E at A-level.

Two specifications are live at once

Units, marks, objectives and scaling are unchanged. Nine set texts change across Units 1, 2 and 3 Teaching on the revised specification starts September 2027, and the outgoing one runs to June 2028.

Teaching on the revised specification starts in 2027. Every 9675 order must name the cohort, because nine texts differ and the Doctor Faustus package has no home in the new one

  • Doctor Faustus out, The Changeling in
  • Waiting for Godot and Translations out, Death and the King's Horseman and Top Girls in
  • Last Man in Tower and Remains of the Day out, Wuthering Heights and The Island of Missing Trees in
  • Wordsworth selection out, Dharker and Jamie selections in
  • Death of a Red Heroine out, My Sister the Serial Killer and The Mercies in, taking the list to ten

200 raw marks, scaled to 400 on the uniform mark scale, which also equates units sat in different series. Board stated. Alternative routes are shown indented; a candidate takes one of them, not both.

Routes

OxfordAQA International Advanced Subsidiary English Literature, Units 1 and 2 only. Unlike 9670, the objective profile does not change between AS and A-level. All three objectives are an equal third at both levels

The board's own tables disagree. As printed the objective column sums to 99.99 and Unit 1 sums to 19.98 against a stated 20. The board's printed figures are carried exactly as printed, and the two rounding residuals they create are declared with their values rather than smoothed away

What this specification changes about the package

  • Raw marks go to a uniform mark scale: Units 1 and 2 by 1.6 to 80, Units 3 and 4 by 2.4 to 120. A second year mark is worth half as much again as a first year mark
  • Every unit is organised by genre or approach: dramatic tragedy, place, crime and mystery, representations. Products are genre packages, not period packages, and the same text can only be sold under its own unit
  • Unit 3 requires two texts from one list, answered in two essays of 25 marks. The Unit 3 product is a pairing, and any two of the nine listed texts is a legal pairing
  • Unit 4 is either an unseen paper or two centre chosen essays of 1250 to 1500 words. Two very different 30 per cent products: unseen practical criticism, or a supervised coursework pair
  • The four representation areas are not prescribed topics and no wider reading is expected. Unit 4 material teaches reading strategy, not content. A context heavy package would misread the specification
  • Units 1 and 3 are closed book; Unit 2 is open book. Quotation banks for tragedy and crime, navigation for place, inside one qualification
  • Any unit may be resat any number of times within the shelf life, and the best result counts. Resit material has a standing market here
  • Board stated: for teaching and examination outside the United Kingdom. A hard market boundary the other two boards do not draw
  • Teaching on the revised specification starts in 2027 while the outgoing one runs to summer 2028 at A2. Cohort is an ordering field. Nine texts differ, and Doctor Faustus, Waiting for Godot, Translations and the Wordsworth selection all end with the outgoing cohort

Set texts held
38 texts, each with a rights status derived from the author's death date. The board states none of them.

What this map does not hold

  • unit 3 count discrepancy. BOARD INCONSISTENCY, FOUNDER CONFIRMED: the board prints 'a choice of any two texts from eight' in Version 4.1, 5.3 and the revised 5.6, while listing nine texts in 5.3 and ten in 5.6. Lee Woods confirmed on 23 August 2026 that the list governs and the outgoing cohort offers nine. The board sentence is stale boilerplate
  • copyright statuses. DERIVED BY PLATFORM, NOT BOARD STATED
  • entry codes. NOT EXTRACTED. The entries and codes section of the specification was not read into this map
  • ao mark split. NOT BOARD STATED at question level. The board gives unit percentages only
