What this specification changes about the package

  • This qualification is AS Level only. There is no A Level in Language and Literature. A one year package with no continuation product, and no carry forward decision to make
  • Paper 2 has three sections of 25 marks and the candidate answers two, from different sections. Two set texts from different genres. The package is a genre pairing, and three pairings are legal
  • Set texts are not allowed in the examination room. Quotation banks and memorisation material are required, as on 9695 and unlike 0475
  • Paper 1 is question for question the same paper as 9093 Paper 2. Writing material built once serves both syllabuses. This is the only overlap of its kind in the international catalogue
  • The Paper 2 set text lists are the 9695 Paper 1 and Paper 2 lists. Fourteen text packages serve both syllabuses; only the paper reference on the cover changes
  • Set texts are named per examination year. An order must name the examination year, though only the prose list moves between 2027 and 2028
  • Dictionaries may not be used in either paper. Vocabulary work belongs in the taught sequence, not in exam technique

Sign-off
Lee Woods, 23 August 2026. Map cie-8695-v1.
Currency
Current. The 2024 to 2026 syllabus remains live to the November 2026 series
Set texts held
14 texts, each with a rights status derived from the author's death date. The board states none of them.

What this map does not hold

  • section marks. NOT BOARD STATED as a cumulative total for Paper 2. Each of the three sections is worth 25 marks but only two are answered, so the sections carry marks_if_taken rather than marks
  • prescribed poem lists. NOT EXTRACTED. The selections are printed across syllabus pages 16 to 20 and 22 to 26 in a two column layout that does not extract reliably. The same selections appear in 9695 and are named there. Founder decision of 23 August 2026: transcription is deferred until the first orders for this syllabus arrive
  • editions. NOT EXTRACTED. The board names prescribed editions for passage setting on syllabus page 27
  • copyright statuses. DERIVED BY PLATFORM, NOT BOARD STATED
  • entry codes. NOT BOARD STATED in the syllabus; component entry codes sit in the Guide to Making Entries
  • ao mark split. Board stated for Paper 1, where Question 1 splits 15 marks to AO2 and 10 to AO3. NOT BOARD STATED for Paper 2

Decisions taken

  • No. Defer until the first orders arrive. Everything except a poetry product can be built and sold now. A poetry order triggers the transcription against the printed anthology pages first
